Transition House for Girls & Education Center

04.12.2024 – Following the successful launch of our project in Kenya in 2024 and the near completion of the Transition House for Girls, we continue our commitment with the Charity Circle in 2025. Despite delays caused by flooding and issues with the drainage system, construction is now back on track. The Transition House provides not only protection, hygiene, and a place to sleep for girls who have lived on the streets, but above all, it offers a home – a foundation for education and a new perspective. Social workers support the girls on their journey from difficult circumstances, marked by malnutrition and drug abuse, towards independence.

In November 2024, we visited the site with a six-member team (Christoph Busch, Wanja Greuel, Shahni Naeem, Shiraz Naeem, Chris Pfeiffer, and Stefan Vos) to assess progress. We had intensive discussions with local partners, toured the existing Transition House for Boys and the under-construction Transition House for Girls, and planned the next steps. Additionally, we had the opportunity to see the launched Education Center and clearly recognized its potential added value.

Focus for 2025:

Completion of the Transition House for Girls:
Construction is nearly finished. However, work on the outdoor areas, a fence, and the interior furnishings (such as furniture) is still required. Once these tasks are completed, more girls can be accommodated, and care services can be expanded.

Construction of the Education Center:
The majority of the funds will go toward the construction of the Education Center. The construction has already begun, but it is only about 20% complete. As we know, education is the key to self-sufficiency. I Africa, our local partner, is building, with our support and that of the Helping People Foundation, a comprehensive training center designed specifically to help rehabilitated street dwellers enter the workforce. This center will offer vocational training, the development of life skills, and coaching to ease the transition into stable, productive lives.

Specific plans include:

  • Learning basic vocational skills in tailoring, computing, and beauty care/hairdressing.
  • Each course lasts between three to six months.
  • The center will feature a classroom, a computer lab, a beauty studio, and workshops for hands-on practice.
  • Participants will gain practical experience under the mentorship of experts.
  • The curricula for each training program will be developed in collaboration with industry professionals.
  • In addition to vocational training, participants will receive life skills training in areas such as financial literacy, time management, and communication.
  • The center will assist graduates in finding employment opportunities through internships.
  • Upon completion, graduates will receive certificates that offer access to job opportunities or resources to start their own businesses.
  • The progress and well-being of graduates will be monitored regularly.

Your commitment saves lives.

To complete both projects, we need a total of EUR 50,000: EUR 10,000 for the Transition House and EUR 40,000 for the Education Center. Our visit in November 2024 showed us the immense need, but also the impact of our efforts. These institutions not only offer children a perspective – they save lives. Together, we can create lasting change. Support us in achieving this goal. Your commitment makes the difference.
