Transition House for Girls bei Nairobi
53 million people live in Kenya. 18 million live in extreme poverty. With 4.4 million inhabitants, Nairobi is the capital of Kenya. More than 60,000 children live on the streets, around 10% of them girls. East Africa is affected by extreme drought.
The risks and dangers for girls on the streets are significantly higher and have gender-specific characteristics. Experiencing physical, psychological and particularly severe sexualized violence in the form of abuse and rape is unfortunately part of everyday life. This results in increased HIV infections and other sexually transmitted diseases. Many girls become pregnant at a young age and also have to care for a child. In order to endure life on the streets, the majority are addicted to drugs and/or are dependent on others.
The Transition House is a safe and supervised shelter and the first stop in the rehabilitation process. The Transition House is staffed by educational specialists who, as important reference persons, provide close professional and emotional support during the rehabilitation process. Through binding everyday structures, individual needs analyses and specific educational offers, residents can master the path to self-sufficiency.
A transition house for boys has already been running successfully for two years. A total of EUR 78,500 is needed for the transition house and the equipment, of which EUR 35,000 has already been collected. This means that EUR 43,500 is still missing. We want to generate this with the Charity Circle in 2024.
